Recently, Sebastian Groths interview popped up on my Facebook wall. Inside it, he shared some interesting and well-said things related to techno subgenres.
It is the part where he explains his view on overflowing and confusing subgenres – from my point of view I would add just genres here too. ↘
I couldn't agree more!

Today we have a lot of unimportant and completely meaningless music-genres and subgenres for anybody who loves this music. My belief is, it benefits only businesses like Beatport (and their charts...) and some huge mainstream record labels.
We witness how they (big market - profiteers) rapidly make up some new “descriptions” about music and its categories. According to their statement, this new dictionary should help all new artists on the scene to send their music to a matching label.
-Help? ?
The same industry which creates those new subgenres can't even advise you for sure on how to recognize which sound belongs to which category.
Unfortunately, I only see it as a negative thing.
-It's confusing to anyone new on the scene.
-It puts pressure on new talents in a way that they think they need to know all types or genres in the game and describe their music with as many epithets as possible, so that they look professional or something...
-It can come to incorrect providing of information to the newbies on the matter.

*Found on the official website of a record label - big platform*
A clear example of how we all personally categorize this subgenre- things in different ways.
Another powerful quote by Groth and definitely something to remember ↘
